Pathé Thuis is the leading TVOD streaming service of Pathé in the Netherlands, renowned for its extensive library of films available for rental and purchase. With a strong foothold in the Dutch market, Pathé Thuis has consistently demonstrated impressive growth and innovation, earning accolades such as the Dutch Interactive Award for Best E-commerce Platform. As the company embarks on its global expansion journey, starting with France, the TVOD streaming service continues to set benchmarks in the Video-On-Demand industry.
Challenge
Pathé aimed to expand its successful TVOD service internationally, beginning with the French market under the brand name Pathé Home. This expansion required a complete renewal and realignment of the user experience across all devices to ensure consistency with the global Pathé product family and to cater to various regions. Additionally, Pathé needed to unify its design standards across different platforms, including both cinema and video-on-demand services, to present a cohesive brand identity worldwide. Achieving this necessitated in-depth collaboration with the Pathé Home team, the French Pathé cinema team and their agency, to fully understand the local audience and market dynamics.
Solution
Our approach focused on creating a unified design system for VOD that could support Pathé’s Video-On-Demand expansion in France while respecting regional nuances. Leveraging our experience with Pathé Thuis, we simplified content discovery by implementing streamlined navigation across all devices, prioritising TV and mobile platforms as the primary channels for content consumption and purchases.
The multi-team collaboration was pivotal in tailoring the user experience to resonate with the French audience. By understanding their unique preferences and the competitive landscape, we were able to create a user-friendly and engaging interface that stands out in the crowded streaming market.
Together with the Pathé VOD team, we have established an efficient product development process for introducing new features and making informed design choices. By combining experience with real-world user data, we ensure the platform remains agile and can quickly adapt to evolving market demands and user preferences.
Results
The comprehensive redesign received enthusiastic approval from Pathé’s senior leadership and executive management and is praised in feedback research conducted by Pathé. Our strategic approach enabled Pathé Home to make a strong entry into the French market with a successful launch of Pathé Home in 2024.
